Nebraska adopted permitless concealed carry in 2023 for adults 21 and over who may lawfully possess a handgun, and the same law preempted the local firearm ordinances that cities such as Lincoln and Omaha had enforced. The Nebraska State Patrol still issues the concealed handgun permit, which is useful for reciprocity and which substitutes for the handgun purchase certificate. Schools, courthouses, police stations, hospitals, polling places, bars and posted private property are restricted, and no state permit covers federal property.
